What is Strategic Planning?

Strategic planning is a clear and logical approach to building agreement around participation, commitment, urgency, and action. It serves as a foundation for organizational decision-making and acts as a roadmap for success.

What does strategic planning accomplish?

It prompts a critical evaluation of existing assumptions and established practices by asking, “Does this action, policy, or procedure support our mission?” Strategic planning also sets benchmarks for evaluating performance and helps align the decisions made by a chapter’s board and its committees.

What strategic planning is not:

It is not a method for domination by a small, influential group. It does not replace routine operational decisions, nor is it a rigid or unchangeable document.

Additional benefits of strategic planning:

Engaging in strategic planning fosters a sense of inclusion and ownership among chapter members, increasing their commitment and loyalty. It also promotes the emergence of new leaders within the organization.
